The following cylinder color codes comply with British standards, although some regions follow the CGA standards.

Color coding is applied to the shoulder (curved part) of the cylinder and is used to identify the properties of the gas inside the cylinder. Two consecutive bands may be used to represent a gas that has more than one property.

The color of the cylinder is only an indication; always read the label to identify the contents of a cylinder.
